Workplace Innovation for Non-Profits
Delightful and insightful interview with Rachael Borné about #Intrapreneurship and #WorkplaceInnovation within a #NonProfit. Thank you Rachael!
On #Motivation
The reason I'm so doggedly determined to innovate at Our House is because I actually really care about the mission of Our House. 🏠💪
On #Innovation
Being willing to try different things. I think our house, being a #nonprofit, is less bureaucratic than most other agencies, and being a nonprofit that is like open to innovation means that we do try new things all the time. 🎉
On #Data
"Data Driven Improvement" is one of our capabilities, and as a team we have to uphold that. 📈 As the leader of our Programs team, I'm responsible for ensuring that our team is upholding that.
"Mutually Beneficial Partnerships" is another one. "Compassionate Accountability" is another one. "Holistic Programming" and "Having a Skilled, Principled, Driven Team" are others. I better be the exemplar of those things because I'm leading this large team of people working on the front lines.
On #PitchingIdeas
Know your audience and tell the story in a way that's going to be appealing to the people that you need to get on your side for your project.
Communicating clearly is important. I have learned over the years how rare it is for people to be truly able to communicate clearly. 🎙️ 👂
I personally don't believe in silver bullets for most complex problems, so it's important to be realistic.
On #Listening
Asking open, ended questions, ensuring that the listener understands the information that you're providing to them doing a lot of reinforcement of what a person's telling you by like repeating it back to them. For example, "I hear you saying is this, did I get that right?" Asking questions like that makes people feel special cause you're telling them that you were hearing what they're saying, you're ensuring that you understood the way that you heard it. It's all about building positive relationship and trust. 🤝
On #LeadingByExample
Being the hardest working person in the room is definitely part of my approach, which stinks sometimes since I work too much, but I think that is ultimately important. 😅
Having a positive attitude and having a lot of patience and just celebrating incremental change and success is important. 🏆
