How to Prioritize Ideas with the Impact/Effort Matrix
Ever feel like you have ๐ก๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ฆ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ and no clear way to decide which ones to tackle first? Thatโs where the ๐๐ฆ๐ฉ๐๐๐ญ/๐๐๐๐จ๐ซ๐ญ ๐๐๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐ฑ comes in.
Hello again, fellow #Intrapreneurs! ๐
In our last post, we explored #Personas as a way to bridge the gap between #Data and #Empathy. Today, letโs talk about a tool that helps us take all those great ideas and figure out which ones to act on first: the ๐๐บ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐/๐๐ณ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ ๐ ๐ฎ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ .
Shout out to Megan Brown and Lambert Nduwingabo for driving the #GoodDesign conversation.

#Brainstorming is energizingโbut it often leaves us with a wall of sticky notes and no clear path forward. The ๐๐บ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐/๐๐ณ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ ๐ ๐ฎ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ is a simple yet powerful way to cut through that clutter. It helps teams prioritize by asking two key questions: โ How much impact will this idea have for our users? โ How much effort will it take to implement?
Gather your ideas โ Write each one on a sticky note or digital card.
User delight, revenue potential, accessibility, or alignment with goals.
Time, budget, technical complexity, or organizational change required.
Plot each idea on the grid (Pro tip: Use dot voting to speed up consensus.)
Step back and look for patterns โ Which quadrant fills up? Thatโs your clue.
When mapped, ideas fall into four quadrants: ๐ค๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ธ ๐ช๐ถ๐ป๐ โ High impact, low effort (do these first!) Low impact, low effort (good fillers or experiments) Low impact, high effort (often skipped)
The resulting matrix makes decision-making transparent, aligns teams and keeps focus on user value. By mapping ideas into the four quadrants, you can see which solutions are quick wins which deserve long-term investment, and which might not be worth the trade-offs ๐ Quick Wins rise to the top ๐ฅ Big bets get strategic planning. โ Low-value, high-effort ideas fade away.
The ๐๐บ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐/๐๐ณ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ ๐ ๐ฎ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ keeps teams focused on what matters most: #UserValue. ๐ It aligns everyone around clear priorities. It prevents burnout by balancing ambition with feasibility. ๐ It makes decision-making transparentโso everyone can see why a choice was made.
Helping transform brainstorming chaos into an actionable #Roadmap. Sometimes the simplest frameworks are the most powerful. The next time youโre drowning in Post-its, try plotting them on this grid. Youโll be surprised how quickly clarity emerges. โธป
